what is conformity?
situations in which individuals change their behaviour as a result of real or implied peer pressure
What effects conformity?
Normative influence: established behaviour of the group ie. friends, fam, society
Informational influence: observing behaviour of others to guide in whether we should behave the same
Unanimity: we are more likely to conform when oother members in the group behave the same
Group size: onformity inccreases as the group zise exapnds from 2-4, then stays at similar levels of conformity in a group of 8
Deindividuation: when in a large group behaviour can be influenced by a sens of anonymity and this can lead us to behave in a way we never would alone
What is indipendence?
whenn an individual is aware of how the group expects them to behave/ repond but their decision making is not swayed
what is anti-conformity?
a deliberate refusal to comply with social norms as demonstrated by ideas, beliefs, judgements that challenge these norms
Anti-conformity, conformity and the group.
the norms of the group influence an individuals behaviour, with the conformist holding positive views towards the group and the anti-conformist holding negative views towards the group
