- take majority view as you accept it to be correct
- leads to permanent change even in the absence of the group

- act in the same way as the group as you value it and want to be apart of the group
- don’t necessarily agree with everything
- take on majority beliefs

- outwardly go along with the group
- change in behaviour only lasts as long as the group is monitoring us

- explanation of conformity that says we agree with majority opinions as we believe it’s correct thus we accept it because we want it to be correct
