Why was the Chinese intervention so effective?
-They were strongly committed to communism and taught to hate Americans. -USSR supplied the Chinese with modern tanks and planes -The Chinese were familiar with Koreas treacherous conditions and the landscape while the Americans weren't -The initial attack was ferocious and the sheer size of the Chinese force kicked the UN out of Seoul in January 1951.

Why was General MacArthur sacked by Truman?
-MacArthur wanted to invade NK again and suggested nuking China. Truman did not support this -The UN warned Truman an attack on China would provoke the USSR, MacArthur wanted to attack China. -In March 1951, MacArthur sent troops across the 38th Parallel blatantly ignoring Trumans instructions not to. -General Omar Bradley said MacArthur's aggression would have "involved America in the wrong war, in the wrong place, at the wrong time and with the wrong enemy,"

Why did the Korean war become a stalemate in late 1951?
-Both sides had set up fortifications around the DMZ including heavy barbed wire and land mines preventing either side breaking through. -The war continued to be fought in the air as the US air force launched a mass bombing campaign over NK, which may have killed up to 1 million people. The communists defended their air space. This aerial warfare could not swing the war in favour of either side.
