Conduction in non-metals Flashcards
1
Q
What are atoms bonded by?
A
Every atom is physically bonded to its neighbours in some way
2
Q
What happens when heat energy is supplied to a solid?
A
If heat energy is supplied to one part of a solid, the atoms will vibrate faster
3
Q
What happens as they vibrate?
A
As they vibrate more, the bonds between atoms are shaken more. This passes vibrations on to the next atoms, and so on
4
Q
What happens after frequent vibration?
A
Eventually the energy spreads throughout the solid. The overall temperature has increased
