What was the problem with the housing during the Industrial Revolution?
-dirty and unhealthy homes
-more and smaller houses

-homes don’t have access to clean water
-collecting water can be hard for most

-large accumulation of waste
-towns dont have propper sewers

-people didn’t want to spend money on drainage

-both the building company and the council say that it is not their job to fix it
-water sources were far from towns so many people would have to take several trips
-water was expensive

-waste built up quickly because the landlords don’t want to pay for the cesspits to be emptied

Define Life expectancy
How long someone lives for on average. E.g. In the UK today people on average live until they are 81.
Define Cholera
A deathly disease carried by dirty water. It infects your small intestine. It makes you be sick a lot, very thirsty and have diarrhoea.
Define Sanitation
the process of keeping places free from dirt, infection, disease, etc.
Define cess pit
Used for human waste before toilets were developed. They were rarely if ever emptied, and often seeped into underground water supplies causing cholera and other diseases to spread.
Define MP
Member of Parliament (someone who makes decisions in
parliament)
Define Act
a law that has been voted on and agreed on by parliament
Define Bacteria
tiny cells/organisms that live on living and non-living things. Some bacteria are healthy but some are not.
