Conditionel Flashcards
When do you use the conditionnel?
To describe what we WOULD DO or what WOULD HAPPEN if certain conditions were met.
Expressing what would happen if a condition contrary to fact were met. This is often formed using si and the imparfait: Si j’étais riche, j’achèterais un avion (If I were rich, I would buy a plane).
To describe what people said or thought in the past about a future event: Il a dit qu’il voyagerait cet été. (He said that he would travel this summer).
To make a polite request: Instead of je veux de l’argent (I want some money) which is a bit rude, use Je voudrais de l’argent (I would like some money)
How do you form the conditionnel?
You use the futur stems, so making sure the verb ends in an R, and you also use the same irregular stems ir for aller, ser for etre, etc. All the endings are the imparfait endings
