Q

what happens to form polyesters

A

dicarboxylic acid reacts with diol (both monomers with two functional groups)
and the dicarboxylic acid loses its OH
the diol loses a H
this forms a H2O

However to show they continue to join we remove the OH and H from the outer sides and this makes it 2H2O

Q

how do we write an equation for forming a polyester

A

put n infront of both the dicarboxylic acid and diol and then place the polyester as its repeating unit and n on the outside aswell as 2n H2O
