Concepts Of Physics Flashcards
Define “Froce”
It’s a form of energy which : - produces movement - has a direction - a magnitude - a point of application F=mxa (in Newtons)
What is the difference between mass and weight ?
Mass is a scalar quantity, without a line of action or direction that represents the quantity of matter of an object whereas weight of an object is the pull of gravity on the object’s mass. Weight is expressed in Newtons.
What is Newton’s first law of motion
The law of inertia :
A body remains at a state of reste or in uniform motion unless an outside force acts on it
What is Newton’s second law of motion ?
Law of acceleration :
F = M x A
What is Newton’s third law of attraction ?
Reaction Law :
When a body exerts a force on a second body, the second body simultaneously exerts a force equal in magnitude and in opposition direction on the first body.
Define mechanical work
When a force acts on a object to cause its displacement
W = F x Displacement
Work can be positive, negative or zero
