Q

Rabeinu Yona difference between Halel and Ashrei

A

In Talmud Bavli in masechet Shabbat, Rabbi Yosi says I want to finish halel everyday and Talmud says, it’s blasphemy!! we ask why, answer is bc he’s rly talking abt Psukei D’zimra.
Rabeinu Yona: asks question; why is it so bad to say Hallel every day? Hallel is said on those special days bc it’s a rememberance that Hashem did something great for us a while ago (in the past). If we say Hallel every day it’s like saying Hashem only did good things in the past but obv Hashem does stuff every day. However, Ashrei has stuff for every day and future, this is living our life with Hashem involved on a daily basis. (there’s nothing past tense in Ashrei

Q

Why no “נ”

A

Rabbi Dr. Abraham J. Twerski) There’s a concept of descent needed for ascent, for example some spiritual heights may not be attainable without the fall. While one doesn’t want to fall, knowing that there’s a safety net is needed.
-The concept of falling and not getting up is so so horrible (and cannot be how we live life) that we just skip nun in the first place.

Q

Rabeinu Yona on Makom Kavua

A

Rabeinu Yona says that Makom Kavua means that it’s not talking abt a specific spot in shul bc the entire place is holy, it means picking a spot in your house for whenever can’t be at shul. There are a lot of things happening so you want to pick a nice qiuet spot where you won’t be bothered.

18
Q

Chelbo on Makom Kavua

A

Means picking one shul and not switching back and forth whenever is desired. If everything is new, it’s gonna be harder to focus so just stick to your reg. place

19
Q

The Rosh on Makom Kavua

A

Not enough to pick one shul, also have to pick one spot in the shul

20
Q

Why is Makom Kavua associated with being humble

A

Rabeinu Yona: first, it’s a sign you put careful attention/value into davening if a person loves t’fillah sm it automatically means they have humbleness bc one can’t rly daven without being humble
Tzlach: if you sit in a spot once, it’s holy and the second time it helps the t’fillah be stronger. –> it shows you acknowledge your davening needs help

21
Q

Magein Avraham MK

A

within 4 amot in every direction is considered one place so you can sit near if someone takes your exact spot

22
Q

Talmud Bavli, Masechet Shabbat MK

Hachnasat orchim is more important than davening (we learn that from parshat Vayera where Avraham inerrupts his davening to welcome his guests.
