Existential self
most basic form of self-concept. Separate and distinct entities from others.
Categorical self
second step of self concept. Each object has properties or traits. Can advance where we compare ourselves to others.
Social Identity Theory
Personal identity and social identity.

Developed through childhood. Five stages: Oral(0-1), anal(1-3), phallic(3-6), latent(6-12), and genital(12+).
Erikson’s Theory of Psychosocial Development
Culture and society and it’s effect through a lifespan. 8 stages. Crisis leads to virtue or negative outcome.
Vgotsky Theory of Sociocultural Development
Role of social interaction on cognition. Elementary mental function turns into higher mental functions through a learner (1. MKO) by enabling the 2. ZPD. 3. Language is the main way info is transmitted; thought determines language.
