Q

What are the four points for compulsory voting?

A
  • Voting is a duty, not just a right
    -Parliament would be more representative
-You would have to appeal to govern for the countries, a whole not just appeal with your core voters
  • The ability to still spoil your paper means you aren’t forced to vote for somebody you dislike, and it’s a more powerful message than not showing up

Q

What are four points against mandatory voting

A
  • It should be a matter of choice in the true democracy
  • It wouldn’t stop a focus on marginal seats and sections of society with greater numbers of people
  • papers over the real reason that people aren’t showing up- disillusionment with the system parties and policies presented to them
  • Would people just vote for anyone?
