Composing A Rhythm Flashcards
What should we do first when composing a rhythm with 4 bars
We must seperate the bars into two phrases: a question and an answer phrase.
What happens in the question phrase in the melody
In the question phrase we will be given the first bar. For the second bar we must make it similar to the first one
What makes a good question phrase when making a melody
Using some old material from the first bar and some new material.
Changing the order of the notes in first bar in the second bar
What makes a bad question phrase when making a melody
When using the exact same note sun the exact same order
Using rests unless they are part of the rhythm in bar 1
All the notes being completely different to bar 1
What happens in the answer phrase of a melody
You use mostly the same type of rhythm and notes. The last note should be reasonably long (at least a crotchet)
What makes a good answer phrase
Using some of the same notes but not in the same order. And having a long minim end
Using all the same notes but in a different order and a long minim finish.
What makes a bad answering phrase in a melody
Using completely different notes to the question phrase
Using one long note and not making it interesting enough
What are things to remember when composing rhythms
Remember to:
Have the right amount of beats in each bar
Recycle some of the rhythms from the first bar
Have and long end
Write a tempo at the top and Dynamics at the bottom of the
