Q

What is Muscular strength?

A

Is the force that a muscle or a group of muscles can exert against a resistance in a single muscular contraction. E.g. weightlifting

Q

What is muscular power?

A

Is the ability to use strength quickly to produce an explosive effort. Power depends on a tradeoff between strength and sped. Max power is achieved when speed and force are about 35% of max.

Q

What is muscular endurance?

A

Ability to work a muscle for long periods at less than maximal effort, where local fatigue rather than general exhaustion is the limiting factor.

Q

What is Aerobic capacity

A

It is defined as the ability of the Circulatory and Respiratory Systems to make ATP (energy) using oxygen. E.g. Cross country running.

Q

What is Anaerobic Power

A

The ability to put body parts into motion quickly and to sustain high intensity efforts for activities where anaerobic energy is required. E.g. 400m runner.
Also referred to as speed

Q

What is flexibility?

A

Is the ability of the muscles, ligament and tendons to allow large movements of the joints often called mobility or suppleness. Flexibility can be increased by stretching.

Q

What is balance?

A

is the ability to maintain the body in equilibrium while stationary (static) or moving (dynamic). You are in equilibrium if you do not fall over or off a piece of equipment.

Q

What is coordination

A

Is the ability of your body’s senses such as your nervous system and your muscles to work together so that you can prefer specific movements smoothy.

Q

What is body composition

A

Refers to the ratio of fat to non-fat components of the body. Body fat can be measured by doing a skin fold test.

Q

Give an example of flexibility

A

A gymnast training to increase hip mobility to improve the quality of their split leap on the beam

17
Q

Give an example of Muscular endurance

A

A rower repeatably pulling their oar against the water to propel the boat towards the line.

18
Q

Give an example of muscular strength

A

Pushing will all one’s force in a rugby scrum against the resistance of the opposition pack

19
Q

Give an example of agility

A

A Badmington player moving around the court from back to front and side to side at high-speed and efficiency

20
Q

Give an example of balance

A

A sprinter holds a perfectly still sprint start position and is ready to go into action as soon as the gun sounds

21
Q

Give an example of coordination

A

A trampolinist timing their arm and leg movements to perform the perfect tuck somersault.

22
Q

Give an example of muscular power

A

A javelin thrower applies great force to the spear while moving their arm rapidly forward.

23
Q

Give an example of reaction time

A

A boxer perceives a punch from their left and rapidly moves their head to avoid being struck.

24
Q

Give an example of speed

A

A tennis player moving forward from the baseline quickly to reach a drop shot close to the net.
