Components of circuit Flashcards
A conductor
Any material or substance (usually metals) that allow electric charge to pass through.
Cell
The source of energy for the electric charges. Long line positive terminal. Short line negative terminal
Battery
Two or more cells are connected to each other in a circuit. The cells are connected positive-to-negative.
Open switch
Creates gap in circuit. Preventing movement of charge. Switches controls flow of charge.
Closed switch
Completes the circuit. Charge will move
Resistor
A light bulb. Slows down the flow of charges. Charges have to do work to move through a resistor. Certain materials provide significantly more resistance
Light bulb
Type of resistor. Filaments has a very high resistance and heats up to be white hot. Electrical energy is converted to heat energy and to light energy. Brightness indicates how much energy
Fuse
Protects the circuit. Current is usually able to flow through. When circuit overheats the fuse melts, making a gap (open circuit). Low melting point and low resistance.
Anmeter
Device used to measure current, and which is always connected in series
Voltmeter
Device used to measure potential difference, and which is always connected in parallel
