Oedema from fracture —> fills compartment bound by fascia —> decrease in venous drainage —> ischaemia and infarct of muscle
What is the treatment for compartment syndrome?
Urgent fasciotomy
What are the complications of a crush injury?
Rhabdomyolysis
What can rhabdomyolysis lead to?
Renal failure
Shock
What is a pain complication of a fracture?
Complex regional pain syndrome
What are the symptoms of complex regional pain syndrome?
> 6 months pain in a limb following an injury
Atrophic, shiny skin
Swelling
What is the treatment of complex regional pain syndrome?
Amytryptiline
Gabapentin
What is a complication of fracture of large long bones?
Fat embolism
What does fat embolism present with?
Similar to PE
+ subconjunctival/oral haemorrhage

Steroids and hope
