Complex Obesity Models Flashcards
Two characteristics of complex obesity models =
System dynamic models
Agent based models
= combined of study obesity
How does Energy intake relate to fat mass and fat-free mass?
How is the rate of change of body mass measured? (formula)
How is the constant c measured? (formula)
10 percent energy intake = u
90 percent energy intake =
- used during eating + digestion
- available for BMR PAL
Formulas for:
Change in FM
Change in FFM
BMR =
Complex obesity models w/ age, what do these models entail?
complex models = include + vary parameters
energy intake
PAL
age
What tools are used in complex obesity models? (3)
Vensim sliders = allow varying parameters
Vensim look-up tables = allow = data storage
Vensim Synthesim
basal energy expenditure for FFM =
kff depends on =
look up table
sex + age
ie. can be classified in tanner-stages
Parameters:
Red line =
Blue line =
Green line =
Fat free mass
Total mass
Fat mass
What is the Agent-based model (ABM)?
describes how environ. affects weight gain in children (in this example)
What are the 3 components of the ABM?
- environment (ie. recreation area/home/school/food sources)
- agents (ie. participants)
- network (ie. interaction amongst children)
How do we Integrate the system dynamic model into the agent-based model? (3)
- model every participant as = body mass model
- when participant visits food source = energy intake increases
- when participant visits recreation area (play sport) = energy used up
body mass decreases
