A Simple Model of Bioreactor Flashcards
What is a bioreactor?
device = supports the biologically active environment.
controlled environ
pH; temp; concentration; etc.
eg. grow organisms/cells/tissues
creating meds + vaccines
sewage treatment
alcohol production
Example 1:
Given
tank w/ 25L water w/ 10kg salt mixed in
water inflow rate = 5L/min
water outflow rate = 2L/min
Find
how long will it take for 60 per cent salt = wash out system
The water:
initial level: 25 litres
inflow rate: 5L/min (is constant ZOS)
outflow rate: 2L/min (is constant ZOS)
What is the LRD?
What the water level would look like?
The salt:
initial level: 10 kg
inflow rate: none
outflow rate: unknown
What is the assumption about the salt?
Assumption: salt = always well mixed into water
Concentration of salt =
Dimensional analysis =
What is the combined LRD for the salt and water?
Example 2:
Given
tank w/ 25L water w/ 10kg salt mixed in
water inflow rate = 5L/min
water outflow due to gravity = modelled as FOS
- w/ rate constant = 0.1 min
Find how long will it take for 60 per cent salt = wash out system.
What is the combined LRD for the salt and water with a rate constant?
What the amt of water would look like in example 2?
Example 3:
Given
tank w/ 80L water w/ 10kg salt mixed in
water inflow rate = 5L/min
water outflow due to gravity = modelled as FOS
- w/ rate constant = 0.1 min
Find how long will it take for 60 per cent salt = wash out system.
What the amt of water would look like in example 3?
