Competitive and Noncompetitive inhibition Flashcards

1
Q

Competitive inhibition

A

substrate and inhibitor have similar structures: for this reason there will be a competition between the substrate and the inhibiton for the active side of the enzyme

cause the enzyme is not able to bind on both on the same time

the inhibitor will bind on the enzyme, not on the enzyme substrate complex

KM modified

=> increases

Q

Noncompetitive inhibition

A

the substrate and the inhibitor have different structures - no competition betweem them

the substrate will be bound to the active side of the enzyme, the inhibitor will bound to another site of the enzyme (regulatory side)

the inhibitor binds to the enzyme but on the same time also to the enzyme substrate complex

Vmax modified => decreaes

Q

The formula for Lineweaver-Burk equation is…

A

represents the linear form of Michaelis-Menton equation and is used to determine KM and VMax

1/KM = obtained the point where the straight line intercepts the axis line (horizonatal axis)

1/VMAX = obtained in the point where the straight line intercepts the y axis (vertical axis)
