Comparison of primary cells to secondary cells Flashcards
1
Q
What happens to products in primary and secondary cells?
A
Primary cells are not rechargeable as products lose contact with electrodes or are consumed in side reactions
Secondary cells are rechargeable as products remain in contact with electrodes
2
Q
What happens when secondary cells discharge?
A
Spontaneous, act as galvanic cell, anode is neg/cathode is pos
3
Q
What happens when secondary cells recharge?
A
Non spontaneous so must be connected to power supply, electrolytic cell, anode is positive/cathode is neg.
4
Q
why is it important that products remain in contact with electrodes in secondary cells?
A
So they can be used as reactants again.
