Q

factors affecting battery performance?

A

loss of active materials - detached from electrode or converted by side reactions into inactive form
corrosion/failure of internal components
small crystals of active material become larger, increasing resistance to current flow
side reactions form chemicals which impede cell functioning
impurities in cell react with active materials
decrease in contact of electrolye and electrode - by leakage of electrolyte / transofmration into non conductive material
