Roles and powers explained
Look at what the Execs must do annually, and their executives
A
- State of union is a wish list by the Pres, Queens speech is what will happen, by PM via queen
- Budgets submitted in US start long process of concessions, In uk it is proposed & passed
- Both are Cheif Exec but US of singular executive, UK of collective executive
- Both get to appoint exec officials (Cabinet) but PMs dont need confirming

PM Weaker/Less roles
A
- No technical veto and monarch must sign
- JAC does supreme court judges
- PM no power of pardon
- Pres is head of state and gov, UK head of state is queen

A
- Must do PMQs and take opposition questions
- Appear before committees (Liason)
- Recommends life peerages, Ch urch of England bishops

Differences in accountability to legislature
A
- Pres cannot be in legislature whereas PM must be an MP
- Pres no threat of votes of confidence,
- Pres cant stick or carrot legislature like UK - No whips, cabinet apps are downgrades
- Congress can reject/alter bills and budgets, override the pres veto
- Congress can reject appointments to cabinet and judiciary (By senate) and reject treaties
- PMQs and Select committees much greater in UK

Differences in cabinets
A
- All power is in the president, with no political rivalry from exop, not first among equals
- PM has free reign over appointments
- PM must regularly meet with cabinet
- PM has doctrine of collective responsibility
