Compact Bone Tissue Flashcards
Central/haversian canals
Entry point into osteon for blood vessels
Osteon/haversian system
Organizational structure of compact bone
Canaliculi
Small channels/canals that provide blood supply to osteocytes in extracellular matrix
Lacunae
Small lake, houses osteocytes
Concentric lamella
Collagen fibers, minerals, hard, goes around canals
Circumferential lamella
Binds all osteons together, goes around outside of bone
Perforating/Volkman’s canals
Brings blood from outside to central canals
Interstitial lamella
Hold osteon together and connects osteons together
Perforating fibers
Hold periosteum to circumferential lamella
Blood & nerve supply
Periosteum
Nutrient foramen
Cancellous/spongy bone tissue
Trabeculae: oriented along lines of stress placed on bone.
