Communications Flashcards
Each VHF radio has a _____ in the avionics compartment and an _____ located on the fuselage. VHF 1 and 2 are used exclusively for voice communication, VHF 3 is normally dedicated to _____.
Transceiver, Antenna, ACARS
Where is the HF antenna located?
Two HF transceivers are installed in the avionics compartment, and the HF antenna and tuner is located in the vertical stabilizer.
How are the MECH and ATT lights extinguised?
The MECH and ATT lights will not extinguish until the RESET key is pressed, or allowing the light to time out after a short period of time.
How does the flight crew know that a SELCAL is received?
When SELCAL is received, the CALL light flashes on the respective transmission key and is accompanied by a buzzer. The light continues to flash until extinguished by pushing the RESET key.
What is the purpose of the VOICE key on the ACP?
The VOICE key is used to inhibit Morse code identifier signals when monitoring navigation radios.
When is the oxygen mask microphone activated?
The oxygen mask microphone is activated as soon as the left door of the oxygen mask storage compartment is opened.
The fourth occupant’s oxygen mask microphone is not usable.
When does the flight crew know that an incoming message was received via ACARS?
If an incoming message is received via ACARS, the ACARS MSG memo appears accompanied by an aural buzzer.
ACARS can downlink and uplink information tailored to each operator, including:
- Flight times
- Performance data
- In-flight progress reports
- Weather information
What is the purpose of the CIDS?
There are two Cabin Intercommunication Data Systems (CIDS), either of which are capable of controlling the following:
* PA system
* General cabin illumination and signs
* Lavatory smoke detection and indications
* Emergency evacuation signaling
* Passenger entertainment system
* Escape slide bottle pressure monitoring
* Vacuum system control function
* Cargo compartment and lavatory smoke detection
* Cabin and Service interphone systems
An ECAM message is only triggered if both CIDS fail.
There are three interphone systems:
- Flight - Flight deck to pushback coordinator
- Cabin - Flight Deck to cabin
- Service - Allows communications between all receptacles to facilitate maintenance operations
When a flight attendant station pb on the CALLS panel is pressed:
- A high-low chime sounds in the corresponding section of the cabin
- Two pink lights on the cabin CALLS panel illuminate in the related area
- The message, CAPTAIN CALL, appears on the Attendant Indication Panel (AIP), accompanied by a green light
When the EMER pb is pressed on the CALLS panel:
- The white ON and amber CALL light will flash on the pb
- The cabin chime will sound 3 times on all cabin loudspeakers
- Two pink lights flash at all area CALL panels
- EMERGENCY CALL appears in red on all AIPs, accompanied by a red light
To reset an emergency call, the flight attendant must press RESET before hanging up the handset.
What occurs when the MECH pb is pressed?
When the MECH pb is pressed, an external horn sounds at the panel area for as long as the MECH pb is held and a blue COCKPIT CALL light illuminates until reset by ground personnel.
The single buzzer for a normal cabin call and the three buzzers for an emergency cabin call are inhibited on takeoff below _____’ and on approach below _____’ until touchdown. The flashing CALL light still illuminates.
1500’, 800’
The CVR system consists of:
- A remote microphone
- A hot mic function
- A crash proof four-track recorder equipped with an underwater locating beacon
- A control panel located on the overhead panel
