What is communication?
process of a message or information being exchanged from a sender to a receiver
What is formal and informal communication? examples
formal= official message sent by organisation- approved by employe
e.g. company memo, fax, report
informal= unofficial messages not formally approved by business
e.g. gossip
What is verbal communication? examples, pros and cons
act of saying what is on your mind with words
e.g. meetings, face to face conversations, tannoys, phone calls- letters, email, newpaper
+ check stuff, emphasis tone
- undisciplined, not permanent

+impact - difficult to check if understood

Factors effecting choice of communication methods
formal vs informal, time, amount of recipients, business size, competences, finance, audience/message content, situation, relative locations, importance of message (recorded?), organisational structure, leadership style
What does effective communication mean?
customers have a good relationship, staff understand their roles, staff motivation improves when they listen and respond to suggestions
What is communication important in a business?
less mistakes, motivates, control & coordination, implement change, successful decision making, competitiveness, improves chances of obtaining finance, supplier and customer relationships

What is one way communication/two way?
one= person sends a message but doesn’t recieve a message in return
