Communicable diseases, pathogens Flashcards
1
Q
Health definition
A
Physical and mental wellbeing.
2
Q
Communicable diseases
A
- Infectious
- Caused by pathogens
- Can be transferred from one person to another
- e.g. Flu, malaria, HIV
3
Q
Other factors affecting health
A
- Stress
- Diet
- Ethnic group.
- Habitat
4
Q
Key points of bacteria
A
- Very small
- Can be spherical, rod shaped or comma shaped.
- Single cell organisms, don’t have a nucleus, DNA is one chromosome
- Surrounded by cell membrane and Wall
- Reproduce very quickly by binary fission.
5
Q
Key points of virus
A
- Non cellular
- Smallest pathogen
- Can only metabolise and multiply inside living organisms.
- Have DNA or RNA enclosed in a protein coat and capsid.
- Small amount of genes.
6
Q
Key points of fungi
A
- Eukaryotic organism
- Mainly multicellular
- Lack chlorophyll
- Secrete enzymes into food and and absorb digested food.
- Reproduce by spores
- Take food from other organisms - heterotrophs.
7
Q
Key points of protists
A
- Eukaryotic organism
- Mostly unicellular, some multicellular
- Obtain energy by consuming other organisms
- They can also use photosynthesis.
- Primarily live in water or moist soil.
8
