What is a communicable disease?
Diseases that can be passed on in different ways from one person to another.
Was that a communicable disease can be caught?
Touch
Sharing a small space with a sick person
Saliva
Urine or Stools
How is Cholera and Diarrhoea caused?
Drinking unclean water or eating contaminated food.
How is maleria caught?
Caused by mosquitos.
How is TB Caught?
Through germs that are passed on through the air?
How is HIV/Aids passed on?
By sexual contact or via blood.
Name a few ways to stay healthy:
Eat healthy
Gets lots of excercise and sunlight
Get enough sleep
Bath, wash, shower everyday with soap
Wash your hands - especially after going to the toilet
Clean up animal droppings
Keep flies off food
Cover your mouth of nose when coughing or sneezing
Stay in bed, rest, drink plenty of water when sick
What are vaccinations?
A way or protecting ourselves against diseases.
They help the body defend itself from certain diseases.
How are most vaccinations given?
By injection, when you are a young baby.
Describe chicken pox?
A rash of itchy spots that can leave scars. Fever, tiredness and back pain are also common.
Describe diptheria.
A dangerous bacterial instruction that creates a strong coating inside the throat that makes swallowing and breathing difficult.
Symptoms are sore throat, swollen glands in neck, running nose and fever.
Describe measles
It is passed on through the air or through saliva.
Symptoms appear 7 - 14 days after exposure to the virus.
Can have fever, tiny white spots inside mouth, a cough, runny nose and sore throat and eyes. A skin rash.
Describe mumps?
A virus that leads to painful swelling of the salivery glands. Symptoms include fever, headache and a sore throat.
