SEND areas of need– communication and interaction.
Communication and interaction – speech language and processing, e.g. autism, speech language and communication needs.
SEND areas of need – cognition and learning.
Cognition and learning – support with learning e.g. dyslexia, down syndrome and dyscalculia.
SEND areas of need – physical and sensory.
Physical and sensory – they may have a physical disability or sensory challenges e.g. An amputee or sensory impairment , cerebral palsy asthma.
SEND areas of need – social and emotional mental health.
Social emotional mental health – support with managing emotions e.g. anxiety, and depression.
Separate from the four areas of need.
Chronic health conditions.
Long-term medical condition that affects people daily lives and can receive ongoing treatment.
Eg. muscular dystrophy epilepsy, cystic fibrosis and diabetes.
NOT AN AREA OF NEED!!
Define disability.
An individual with a physical or mental impairment that affects the person to complete certain activities all day-to-day tasks.
What’s the medical model?
How disabilities used to be seen e.g an older view. People with disabilities should fit into society and their SEND is their fault.
What is the social model?
How disabilities are currently seen in society new view. Disabled People should be supported by society.
