Beware of cardiac syncope

what are some symptoms of headache in babies
cry then go quiet due to increased cranial pressure
vomiting
what are some red flags for headaches?
INFANTS
Rapidly expanding headsize in infants
Effortless vomiting in the morning
PRESCHOOL/SCHOOL
Waking at night/early morning headache
Worse on coughing/sneezing/ straining/ bending over
Change in behaviour, sleepy,
Change in cognitive ability/ handwriting/balance difficulties
New squint or cranial nerve palsies
Diplopia/visual change
what are some red flags in infant heart murmurs?
other dysmorphic signs
Are they blue – check saturations
Or do they have symptoms and signs of failure
On examination – absent/low volume femoral pulses, low oxygen saturations, liver edge, gallop rhythm, crepitations, oedema
what are some red flags in children heart murmurs?
Fatigue, breathlessness and any infant symptoms
what are some red flags with a cough?
Night time waking with cough, wheeze, SOB or obstructive symptoms
Failure to thrive
Other recurrent infections
what are some red flags in abdominal pain?
failure to thrive
Bilious or bloody vomiting
Bloody stools or symptoms of IBD
what are some red flags for constipation?
Symptoms present from birth
Abnormal lower limb neurology
what are some red flags for diarrhoea?
Weight loss
Blood in stools
Stooling at night
Other systemic symptoms fatigue, rashes, mouth ulcers, joints, eyes
what are some growth red flags?
Other systemic illness in FTT
Children who are short and obese (most obese children are tall)
signs of puberty < 8yo girl <9yo boy
Or later than 14yo boy or 13yo girl (or no menarche at age 15)
