Acetaminophen (Tylenol)
an analgesic and antipyretic
Aspirin
an NSAID that is available as an 81 mg baby ASA or 324 mg full ASA. Also reduces platelet aggregation in cases of heart attack or stroke
Benadryl
oral antihistamine that reduces swelling in response to an allergic reaction
Warfarin (Coumadin)
a blood thinner taken regularly by patients with a history / risk of forming blood clots to prevent the risk of a future event. Can predispose patients to excessive bleeding
Hydrochlorothiazide (HCTZ)
a thiazide diuretic used to treat hypertension
Ibuprofen
an NSAID which acts to reduce pain and inflammation
Insulin
hormone that acts to lower blood sugars and is used to treat hyperglycemia in those with type I and type II diabetes. includes fast-acting and slow-acting
Lasix
a diuretic used to treat CHF
Lisinopril
an ACE inhibitor that treats hypertension
Metoprolol
the most common beta blocker, reduces BP and slows heart rate to treat hypertension and CHF
Miralax
a stool softener to relieve constipation
Nitroglycerin
a vasodilator for heart attacks
Omeprazole (Prilosec)
alleviates chronic heartburn by reducing the secretion of gastric acid
Ondansetron (Zofran)
anti-nausea medication
Prednisone
the most common of the steroids which helps reduce inflammation (i.e. bronchitis, COPD)
