Common Immune Cells Flashcards
Eosinophil
Granulocyte
Involved in defence against parasites and promoting allergic reactions
Mostly target parasites
Memory Cells
B & T cells
Mediate a faster and more potent response on repeated encounter with antigen
Neutrophil
Granulocyte
Die quickly, contribute to pus - mostly against bacterial and fungal
First responder - releases cytokines
Macrophage
Monocyte
Digest pathogens and display antigen on MHCII marker
One of APCs
Dendritic Cells
Filter clear fluid, mainly acts as initiator of adaptive immune system
APC
Mast Cell
Initiates allergy response/inflammation - result of histamine release
IgE bind to Fc receptors
Natural Killer Cells
Two receptors, death receptor and killer-inhibiting inhibitory receptor (MHCI marker)
lyse cell membrane or signal other immune cells
Targets cancer cells
Antigen
Any substance that causes and immune response (production of antibodies)
Antibodies
Acts against specific antigen, enhances opsonisation
Agglutination, Neutralisation, Precipitation
Perforins
Glycoprotein responsible for pore formation in cell membrane of target
Works with granzymes
Complement
Identifies foreign cells, coats the cell
opsonisation, lyses of membrane, enhance inflammation
Activated by cascade
Plasma B Cell
Humoral Immunity
Produces great amount of antibodies in response to specific antigen
Large rER for production of Ig
Antibodies = Immunoglobulin
Cytotoxic T-Cells
Destory virus-infected cells by using perforins and granzymes once antigen is detected on MHCI marker
CD8
Helper T-Cells
Once attached to APC, stimulates memory cell production, activation of B cells and cytotoxic T cells and well as other T-helpers
Basophils
Act like Mast Cell, release histamine, defends body from allergens, pathogens and parasites
They circulate while mast cells are tissue resident
Granulocyte
