- 80% of the time it is d/t rhinovirus (but can be d/t other viruses)

Easy, rapid transmission via nasal mucosa and conjunctiva

Manifestations of the common cold?
A
Begins with a dry, stuffy nasopharynx. Then excessive nasal secretions and discharge. Erythema and edema of mucous membranes in URT

Why are nasal secretions clear and watery in a common cold?
A
There is increase mucous secretion and exudate

Treatment of the common cold?
A
- rest (it is self-limiting)
- symptomatic management
