Describe the development of chicken pox.
11-21 days after exposure to the virus symptoms will begin to develop.
This begins with spots normally on the trunk and face with small red lumps that rapidly develop into blisters.
These blisters then burst and form crusted spots.
Once all the crusted spots have formed the person is no longer contagious.
What virus causes chicken pox?
Varicella-zoster virus
When are you contagious with chicken pox?
One to two days before the blister has appeared and then until all the crusted spots have formed.
What bacteria causes impetigo?
Staphylococus aureus
What are the main signs of impetigo?
A rash with a honey coloured crust that forms patches.
Can impetigo be treated by a Pharmacist?
No as it requires topical or oral antibiotics
