Public notaries
- works for public school, police department, any public agency
-can only notarize for their employer
-cannot notarize after hours
-remit fees collected
-resign after termination
-public agency uses public tax money that is why you can’t be an independent notary after work
-submit letter to proctors when taking notary exam
military notary
must be a US Citizen
-Federal Service Employee
-only notarize on one military base
-can’t notarize after office hours
-fee remission
-if you move to a different base, you have to resign and sign up again

a way for SOS to able to contact you
what happens if you change your name?
- Fill out “notary name change” document and send it by REGULAR MAIL
- need new oath and bond
- destroy old seal and get new seal within 30 days
may notarize until you get your ammended commision and cert from SOS
Change of address
- Notify SOS by cert mail within 30 days
no new oath and bond needed even if you’ve changed to a different county
Resigning commission includes
commission name
commission number
expiration date
bond and oath on file at county
take journal and oath to county
destroy seal
if notary has untimely demise
- have designated reprsentative
- notify SOS immediately
-destroy seal and give journals to county
