Colour Theory Flashcards
Components of colour we can manipulate:
- ) Hue: Different/various colours
- ) Chroma: Saturation, intensity, purity
- ) Value: lightness or darkness
Hue:
Different colours!
Each spectral hue has its own wavelength.
we can make millions of more hues by combining percentages of primary hues.
Primary colours:
Red, blue and Green
Secondary Colours
Magenta, cyan and yellow
Value:
The lightness or darkness of a hue.
More light=higher the value
therefore you increase value by removing black.
What type of scale does value use:
Gray scale
what percentage difference should each value be in order for the human eye to easily differentiate between each value?
15-25%
whats another factor in value
Back ground colour!
Tint:
add whites to hues (pink is a tine of red)
Shade:
Add black to a hue (dark red is a shade of red)
Tone:
add equals amount of hue, white and black
Chroma:
Also know as the intensity, saturation, richness or purity of a colour.
What are the range and what does it mean for chroma?
0% (all gray)-100% (pure hue, max saturation or chroma)
at maximum level the colour appears pure and contains no gray.
Do chroma levels differ with varying hues?
Yes! ex.) the most intense yellow appears brighter than the most intense blue-green
2 kinds of colour mixing?
- ) Additive
2. ) Subtractive
