Colour Part 1 Flashcards
Three requirements of colour
Source of illumination, object to interact, eye to observe.
Shorter wavelengths have
Higher energy
Which has a longer wavelength? Red or Blue
Red
Which has higher energy? Red or Blue
Blue
Define Hue
The actual colour, defined by wavelength
Define Strength
Saturation of Hue, defined by amplitude of wavelength
Define Vividness
Purity of Colour, defined by number of absorptions and how narrow the range of absorptions is.
What causes promotion of election from ground state to an excited state?
Electromagnetic Radiation
What region of light is between 280-750nm?
Visible
What causes something to be fluorescent?
Molecule undergoes an electronic transition by absorbing energy from light, after loss
of some energy as heat it transitions to the ground state by emitting lower frequency
light
What does UV-vis Absorption Spectroscopy measure?
Wavelength absorbed, useful for transparent objects.
What does Visible Reflectance Spectroscopy measure?
Wavelength reflected, useful for colour matching
Define additive colour mixing
mixing of primary colours so that the source of illumination is directly observed.
