A charter is a document written by an authority stating the rights and privileges of an organization or area.

A pilgrim is someone who travels on an expedition to a sacred place for religious purposes.

A backcountry is a remote, underdeveloped area with no or few inhabitants.
What is an immigrant?
An immigrant is someone who migrates to a foreign country and stays permanently.
What is a boycott?
A boycott is a form of protest or disapproval that involves refusing to interact/interfere with something (buying, using, etc.)
What were the Lords Proprietors?
Hint: A proprietor is someone who owns a colony.
The Lords Proprietors were eight Englishmen who King Charles II granted the ownership of the Carolinas in North America. They owned extensive power over their colonies, though the king still retained authority.
What is a militia?
Hint: Only needed in dire situations.
A militia is a body of citizens in a military force that completes a regular army but is only called out for emergencies or drills.

A loyalist remains loyal to their country, especially in times of revolt.
What is a patriot?
A patriot loves and supports their country and is prepared to defend it.

Hint: Involves acts of violence.
A rebellion is an opposition to oneβs authority. In politics, it involves acts of violence against the government in an attempt to change the political system.
