Benjamin Franklin
Lasted from 1790-1830. The period between the formation of the National government & the “2nd revolution” of Jacksonian democracy (because of dominance of the Federalist Party). The “Era of Good Feelings.” Was neoclassic, restrained, & aristocratic. Was the 2nd age of the Revolutionary & Early National Period.
Federalist Age
Writers engaged in “non-belletrisric” pursuits. Included Trumbull, Freneau, Hopkinson, Dwight, & Barlow, who wrote patriotic works. Also included Paine, Sam Adams, Hamilton, & Madison, who wrote polemical prose. Lasted from 1765-1790. Was the 1st age of the Revolutionary & Early National Period.
Revolutionary Age
Lasted from 1765-1830 & included 2 ages: the Revolutionary (1765-1790) age & the Federalist (1790-1830) age. Was the time of the establishment of a new nation.
