college 8-9-10 Luke Flashcards
Why is the gennealogy in Luke different from that of Matthew?
Luke makes in contrary to Matthew a selection, so that there is a symmetrical line in the gennealogy: 14 generations between Adam and David and 14 generation between David and Jesus
Explain the shorter version of the Lord’s prayer in Luke in contrary to Matthew
Matthew and Luke used Mark and source Q for their writing. Well it is argued that Luke used another source for the writing of the Lord’s prayer. Although Luke seems to prefer the shorter reading and so it is plausibel that Luke still used the same source as Matthew (probably Q)
Why is the sermon on the mount as we find it in Matthew all over the place in Luke’s gospel?
Luke wants to explain the sermon in an orderly way.
Who is Luke?
internal evidence: (Luke 1:1-4) Luke is an educated Greek-speaking doctor, who was not an eyewitness of Jesus ministery
external evidence: (Justinus Martyr, anonymous Greek mss): Luke is a Syrian who followed Paul in his missionary
To whom did Luke write his gospel?
He wrote it to the gentiles. Between the lines you read that Luke was famliar with Homer, who was well-known in the Greco-Roman world. Also he uses the Greek style from the Septuaginta. (The best Greek in the NT)
How should the gentiles read the passage in Luke 9:51 (Jesus, underway to Jerusalem, passes firstly through Samaria)
The message is that Jesus came for everyone. That means also the non-Jewish people.
What does Luke try to teach the gentiles by portraying Jesus as the suffering messiah?
He tries to tell us that we will encounter suffering and hardships when we follow Jesus
How is Luke structured?
There is an increase in popularity through the reading of Luke and Acts. Also the books are geographical structured. Luke starts in Jerusalem with worship and ends in Jerusalem with worship. Acts starts in Jerusalem and ends in Rome (outward movement)
