What was the problem with Soviet Agriculture?
Old fashioned, ineffective, no machinery, too small, only grew enough for themselves
Why was food needed?
Needed for workers in towns
Essential if 5 Year Plans were going to succeed
How was NEP not working by 1928?
USSR was 20 million tons of grain short to feed the towns
Why were Town-Workers needed?
Needed if the USSR was to become modern/industrial, peasants needed to migrate to work in towns
Why we’re Cash Crops needed?
If the USSR was to industrialise, peasants needed to grow cash crops (e.g. grain) which could be exported to raise money to buy foreign machinery and expertise
Why were Kulaks a reason for the introduction of Collectivisation?
They opposed communism Liked their private wealth Hid from government collectors Influential (led peasant opinion) STALIN WANTED TO DESTROY
