What is participation
Observable action of engaging in discourse
- the extent of participation, of each member of a group, in an activity that requires collaboration, is shown to be the best predictor of outcomes
What are the three key elements of participation
- action
- interaction
- task completion
What is action
Refers to the level of participation of the individual. It is the behaviour and action of the individual, that manifests from their inherent personal, social and cognitive skills
What is interaction
Refer to behaviour that demonstrates communication with and responses to others
- not only communicates with others, but also the ‘cues’. In communication
What is task perseverance
Refers to the skill of being motivated, and motivating others, towards the completion of the task
What is an indicator of action
Activity within environment
What is an indicator of interaction
Interacting with, prompting and responding to the contribution of others
What is an indicator of task completion/perseverance
Undertaking and completing a task or part of a task individually/ commitment
What are the ingredients of collaboration
- communication
- cooperation
- responsiveness
What is the difference between collaboration and cooperation
- Cooperation is a ‘lower order’ of collaboration
- Cooperation largely ‘a division of labour’
- Collaboration requires integration of efforts
- collaboration is where the whole is greater than the sum of its parts

Proces of going from a current state to a desired state
What are the elements of good problem solving
