What was the difference in ideologies?
America and Britain were capitalist and the soviet union was communist
what was capitalism?
everyone is free to make their own money. opportunities for all.
the individual efforts are celebrated.
relies on democracy.
the public is free to own whatever they want as long as they can afford it.
what was communism?
all earnings go to the state.
all businesses, property and homes belong to the state.
ensures equality between everyone.
What is the history between America and the soviet union?
grand alliance during 2nd world war to defeat Hitler and Nazi Germany.
Why did the grand alliance fail?
Once their common goal (Hitler) was defeated tensions started to arise and rivalry for power. They could no longer ignore the differences in political ideologies.
Why and when was the grand alliance formed?
1941 - to defeat Hitler. he attacked the Soviet union.
Who were the leaders of all three countries in 1941?
Roosevelt (USA)
Churchill (UK)
Stalin (USSR)
- They were all against fascist Germany
What were the differences in aims after WW2?
America and Britain wanted to help Germany recover, for trade.
Soviet union wanted to keep Germany weak so they would never be able to invade again.
(also so Stalin could take over)
