Define the cold war and the background to it
Its when there’s war without face to face battlefeild conflict. The us and russia had one where they used the treat of nuclear war against each other
What were the Nuremberg Trails?
When nazi officials were put on trail for the atrocities of the holocaust. Many were put to death or jailed
What was japan like after the war?
It was occupied by allied troops, the emperor was allowed to stay but had to admit he wasn’t a god, there were trails for war criminals, and a democracy was built
What is cold war?
War where no one meets on the battlefeild
What were reasons for the cold war/tension between the US and the Soviet Union?

What was the policy of containment?
The prevention of communist government from extending to other countries

- the truman doctorine: gave aid to turkey and greece to prevent them ftom falling under a communist gov
- the vietnam war
- the marshall plan
What does the marshall plan say?
That the us would help all european countries that needed it
-unofficially was to increase trade and prevent communism rather than just help
What was germany like after WWII ?
Different countries occupied different parts of it and eventually there was disagreement over the treatment of germans that led to the creation of west germany
Why was NATO created and why was this unusual for the US?
It was created as a military defense and was unusual because the US usually doesnt sign war pacts during peacetime
