Interpret information about selves negatively which leads to cognitive biases

What is the ABCDE approach?
- extension of ABC model to ABCDE
- D= dispute (challenge thoughts)
- E= effect (see beneficial effect on thought and behaviour)
What are the aims of the cognitive approach?
- make patient aware of thoughts, emotions and actions
- challenge negative thoughts
Suggest the number of sessions (and time) when having CBT?
5-20 weekly/fortnightly sessions (last 30-60 minutes each)
What is logical disputing (REBT)?
Self defeating beliefs do not follow logically from information available
What is empirical disputing (REBT)?
Self defeating beliefs may not be consistent with reality
What is pragmatic disputing (REBT)?
Emphasises lack of usefulness in self defeating beliefs
