A
- children produce utterances which increase in complexity as they get older
- children cannot grasp certain aspects of language until they are ready

—> children cannot say certain words until a certain age where their jaw muscles are ready —> fis phenomenon

Give three objections or challenges to the cognative approach
A
- children with cognative difficulties still manage to use language beyond their understanding
- fis phenomenon - the child knows the word is fish not fis and wants to say the correct version but their jaw muscles arent ready for those phonics yet
- children can acquire language without having an understanding of it
