Cognitive Learning Flashcards
Observational learning is known as …
modelling
Who is associated to observational learning?
albert bandura
What is observational learning?
learning from observing the behaviour OF OTHERS and learning the consequences of that behaviour
side note: (in CC or OC you learn from your own behaviour…)
Who is the model?
the person demonstrating the behaviour
How does observational learning work?
-whether you replicate observed behaviour depends on whether you see it being punished or rewarded
-living vicariously through the model shapes your behaviour: vicarious reinforcement vs vicarious punishment
Fear in observational learning
-observing fear in others creates fear in yourself
-observing someone not be afraid of something in dangerous situations = you can be immune for that fear (just like the model you won’t be afraid)
What are mirror neurons?
-neurons that fire when observing other people’s behaviour, feelings…
-neural basis for imitation
-influence behaviour: reward circuits when observing others get rewards as if you were receiving
-responsible for empathy: crying when watching a movie
Mirror neurons active in reading?
even fiction reading may trigger neural actvity since we indirectly experience the feelings and actions described
