Q
Definition
A
changing behaviour through a systematic program based on principles of learning. (strategies based on learning concepts)
2
Q
The token economy (in mental hospitals & classrooms & business)
A
- present in institutions
- reinforces socially desirable behaviour using tokens
- tokens can be exchanged for goods/activities (like coupons/money)
- people in this program know which behaviour will be reinforced (that is the point)
- In mental hospitals: promotes grooming (hygiene), social interaction, housekeeping
- In classrooms: TIME-OUT= removed from sources of positive reinforcement
*do not reinforce behaviour that students already enjoy (reduces value of token) because: goal is that the behaviour continues even after rewards stop. the day that you stop rewarding, the initial natural enjoyment is taken away
-In business: to increase profits, to increase employee knowledge by paying for tuition, auto-insurance companie gives the incentive of you paying less fees if you have safety features in your car to encourage safe behaviour.
