Why is EWT said to be inaccurate?
Studies have indicated that EWT lacks accuracy due to factors like anxiety, leading questions and post event discussion.

Fisher- studied techniques used by police in Florida’s when interviewing witnesses. The following factors were identified as needing improvement and called the standard interview.
- witnesses were given a large number of quick, direct and closed questions in a short time.
- order of Q were not asked in a way that matched witness mental representation.
- witness were not able to talk freely about their experience, frequently interrupted.
Characteristics of standard interview.

- context reinstatement, mentally turn to crime scene
- report everything, all details.
- recall from changed perspective, recreate how crime would be recalled from another perspective.
- recall in reverse order, switch to diff chronology.
Characteristics of enhanced cognitive interview?
Interviewer doesn’t distract witness. Witness controls flow of info. Open ended questions Witness speak slowly. No guessing. Reducing anxiety and making them relax
Effectiveness of congitive interview.
Fisher, geiselman and amador did field research on CI effectiveness.
16 experienced detectives from Florida police depratment were divided into two matched pairs groups based on their previous performance at interviewing. One group received CI trained with other group was a control group with no training. After training CI group gained 63% more info in interviews than the untrained groups.
Suggests, Congo rice interview is effective in improving info.
AO3 for cognitive interview.
Fisher and G found CI greatly improves accuracy of EWT - higher validity.
CI is time consuming.
