- Beck (1967) suggested that some people are more prone to depression because of faulty information processing
- focus on the negative = blow small things out of proportion, over-generalisation and catastrophising
- negative self schema
- negative triad : negative view of self,future, world

A
a schema is a ‘package’ of ideas and information developed through experience.

A = activating event
- depression = irrational thoughts
- depression occurs when we experience negative events
B = beliefs
- negative events trigger irrational beliefs, for example:
● ‘I-can’t-stand-it’ is the belief that it is a disaster when things do not go smoothly
C = consequences
When an activating event triggers irrational beliefs there are emotional and behavioural consequences e.g depressed
