Cognitive: Contemporary Study - Sebastian & Hernandez-Gil (2012) Flashcards
1
Q
What is the 1st aim?
A
Investigate development of phonological in children between 5-17yrs using digit span to measure phonological capacity.
2
Q
What is the 2nd aim?
A
Check decline of digit span in older people with dementia.
3
Q
What is the 3rd aim?
A
See whether digit span is higher for Spanish speakers than English speakers.
4
Q
Sample of 1st part of study?
A
570 Spanish native volunteers from schools in Madrid.
5
Q
IV of the 1st part of study?
A
Age of P’s.
6
Q
DV of the 1st part of study?
A
Digit span.
7
Q
Procedure of 1st part of study?
A
- Split into 5 dif age groups (pre-school to secondary), avg digit span recorded for each age and age group.
- P’s were read out digit list to recall in correct order (a digit a second).
- Correct recall increased list by a digit which they had to recall again.
- This repeated until mistake was made.
8
Q
Results of the 1st part of study?
A
2.07 dif in avg digit span between 5 and 17yrs.
9
Q
Sample of 2nd part of study?
A
- 25 older healthy control group
- 25 with Alzhiemer’s disease
- 9 with Frontotemporal dementia
10
Q
Results of the 2nd part of study?
A
Avg digit span…
- Alzheimer’s = 4.20
- Frontotemporal = 4.22
- Healthy older control = 4.44
11
Q
Overall results?
A
- Digit span increases from ages of 5 to 17 due to development of phonological loop.
- Digit span not sig effected by alzhiemers.
- Polysyllabic languages, e.g. Spanish, have lower digit span than monosyllabic languages, e.g. English.
