what are cognitive biases
errors in how we process information that affect our attention, memory and decision-making
what is fundamental attribution error (FAE)
in explaining the reasons for other people’s behaviour we focus on their personal characteristics and overlook the role of the situation
what are confirmation biases
we pay more attention to info that supports our existing beliefs we may seek it out and ignore contradictory information
what is hostile attribution bias
wrongly interpreting other peoples behaviour as threatening (hostile) when in fact it is neutral
so someone with this bias may react aggressively to something that they see as a deliberate however it was an innocent act i.e. accidently barging someone and the person gets angry
